Higgs Beach
Su questo luogo
Salt-sweet air, golden sunsets and a history that hums with resilience — this shoreline is equal parts memorial and playground. Wander the pier—locally nicknamed the “Rainbow Pier” (and yes, cheeky local nicknames persist)—for sweeping panoramas, then pause at the moving AIDS memorial that traces decades of queer love, loss and activism. The waterfront’s rocky, shallow waters made it a magnet for gay men since the 1970s, but the vibe today is warmly inclusive of all identities. Take a reflective stroll along the boardwalk to the graves of African people who were buried after a captured slave ship in 1860, then spread a towel, watch the dogs at the nearby park, and linger for one unforgettable sunset.
